Worry Dolls to release Brand New Song entitled ‘ TIDAL WAVE

to release a brand new song ‘ TIDAL WAVE’ for the summer 9ec1f9f5-34cd-45b4-9657-bc9accf20418

Worry Dolls are to release a brand new song on a deluxe version of their debut album in Europe on July 13th 2018 on Bread & Butter Music

https://soundcloud.com/breadandbuttermusicltd/worry-dolls-tidal-wave-1/s-zulq3

Tidal Wave will also be released simultaneously on the US album release of ‘GO GET GONE’ through SFE Records /Caroline

The Duo have been touring their debut album featuring the AMA UK 2018 nominated song ‘Endless Road’ since the release in 2017; with over a hundred performances that have taken them on tour with Sam Outlaw, Ian Hunter, Robert Vincent and Dean Owens and to some major Festival appearances such as Cambridge Folk Festival Mainstage.  2018 also saw them starting their live career in Holland with repeat visits and later this year they will be touring in Germany. The US is the spiritual home of Go Get Gone as the girls made multiple visits to write and record with producer Neilson Hubbard in Nashville, but the release of their album Stateside was only confirmed in February when they performed Officially at the Folk Alliance International in Kansas City, as was their invitation to showcase at 2018 AmericanaFest this September In Nashville. The US radio had a great first week with straight adds from 10 stations, so anticipation is brewing  for the release on July 13th.

Worry Dolls explain how Tidal Wave came about :

“The first verse of the song was a voice memo on my phone for nearly a year that I kept coming back to but couldn’t really figure out what it was about. I knew tidal wave was a metaphor for when it feels like life is coming at you at full force and there’s nothing you can do to stop it. But it wasn’t until I lost an extremely close family member last summer very tragically and suddenly that I came back to the song and realised it was about grief. When you’re grieving they say it comes in waves, but for me it felt like a tidal wave.

Around the same time, I had just got my first Gibson and it was this gorgeous Sheryl Crow edition Southern Jumbo with this beautiful rich, warm bass. Zoe was using a vintage Earl Scruggs banjo and when we got the instruments home, this song just poured out. It was like the stars had finally aligned. Quite soon after finishing it, we produced it ourselves and recorded it live in a converted cowshed just outside of London! ”

Rosie Jones (WD)

“The Video was shot by friend, occasional drummer, Finn in Kent around the area of Dungeness, which is a very eerie place surrounded by a ghost like village. We felt a real emptiness in the air as we drove through it.

In the afternoon of the shoot on the beach close by, we ended up having to surrender ourselves to the rain when the sky opened with torrential rain. Though it was quite fitting for the feeling and mood of the song, it was also a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for the both of us”. Zoe Nicol (WD)

Worry Dolls have recently performed on a 7 date tour of the Netherlands, at Cycle Fest, Isle of Mann, Red Rooster and they can be seen at the following Festivals:

Southern Fried
Nashville Meets London
Twinwood
The Long Road
AmericanaFest, Nashville, TN
Costa Del Folk, Carvoeiro, Portugal

Lindi Ortega “Liberty”

3af9bb00-8e4d-4571-8664-100f56599a95

Faustian, haunted country….something Ennio Morricone, Lee Hazlewood and Calexico might have dreamt up at an imaginary cantina. A triumphant curio” **** The Guardian

“…a sensational live performer with a persuasive blend of haunting, pristine falsetto vocals (she sounds like giddy mix of Emmylou Harris, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn), tangy heartbreak lyrics and a sharp wit” – The Independent

“…a kitschy cinematic journey, told by a cast of unsavoury characters that moves from tragedy to redemption. Wonderfully widescreen”  – Mojo

“Lindi Ortega is a special artist, a one-of-a-kind songwriter with a unique vision which seems to be getting stronger. A wonderful album” – 5/5, Country Music People

Lindi Ortega gives fair warning: “Don’t come any closer to my heart /If you’re afraid of the dark.”

However, that shroud is slowly lifted in Liberty. As the narrative unfolds in this concept album, a central character emerges – one who finally sheds the darkness of her past and emerges into the light. As melodies and tempos change throughout Liberty, her journey carries her steadily forward. Listen closely and you’ll find Ortega’s experiences in the lyrics too.

“I think the most important thing for me was that I ended on a very positive note because I’ve had so many people tell me that my songs helped them through really hard times in their life,” Ortega says. “That struck a chord for me, because just like everybody else, I have had hard times in my life, and continue to have pockets of difficult moments here and there. If I can provide some sort of solace with my music, then that gives me every reason to make music. I wanted this record to be all about helping people through the darkness.”

The melodies and arrangements of Liberty draw on the epic work of Oscar-winning composer Ennio Morricone, who became one of Ortega’s musical obsessions during the writing and recording of Liberty. Moreover she enlisted Nashville producer Skylar Wilson (Justin Townes Earle, Rayland Baxter) when she discovered their shared passion for Quentin Tarantino movies. It is fitting that NPR’s All Things Considered has described Ortega as “genre-defying in both her music and her personal style.”

During the sessions at Battle Tapes studio in East Nashville, Ortega and Wilson scaled back the boot-stomping, throwback country approach that she’s known for, instead polishing a set of music that reflects her lineage. Her father is Mexican; her mother is Irish. The sonic landscape of Liberty is enhanced by Nashville band Steelism, known for their dramatic blend of pedal steel guitar and electric guitar, as well as Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie McCoy on harmonica.

In 2017, Ortega opened select dates for Chris Stapleton and Dwight Yoakam. In addition, she married Canadian musician Daniel Huscroft and relocated from Nashville to Calgary. Liberty concludes with “Gracia a la Vida” from the pen of Chilean composer Violeta Parra. The title translates as “Thank you to Life.”

“Even though I always tried to have a silver lining, whether it’s by making my songs tongue-in-cheek, or writing some dark lyrics to happy music, there’s always been an element of balancing light and dark on my previous albums,” Ortega explains. “But this is a full story, and I wanted everybody to be able to take something away from it at the end of the day.”

John Prine New Album ” The Tree Of Forgiveness “

JOHN PRINE ENTERS USA BILLBOARD CHARTS #5 !!

fc2ee23e-437a-4304-a316-7bbc50ed5bf1

“Prine’s stance has stayed askew. Yet these songs are solid like
good chairs you can settle into for a while.”
– The Independent 4*

“The Tree Of Forgiveness is too lively to be a farewell album. He’s
not settling his affairs these songs or packing his bags for the great
hereafter just yet.”
– Uncut 8/10

“John Prine is one of the last great heart-rending jester maestroes
of original country song, and his first original album in 13 years has
gems enough to add to his unique canon.”
– The Mirror 4*

“An American treasure” – GQ Style

“Prine blends goofball wit and aw-shucks surrealism to conjure the ordinary and the profound,  absurdist whimsy and existential despair, laughter and tears”
– The Guardian

“America’s Greatest Living Songwriter” – Men’s Journal

The Tree of Forgiveness The highly-anticipated album, The Tree of Forgiveness, is Prine’s first collection of new material since 2005’s Grammy-winning Fair and Square. Rather than going out on a limb, Prine cultivated the themes that have brought international acclaim since the 1970s. For example, he can take a topic like loneliness and make it funny (“Knockin’ on Your Screen Door”) or heartbreaking (“Summers End”). Perfectly aligned with his quirkiest songs, “The Lonesome Friends of Science” makes its point through the characters he calls “those bastards in the white lab coats who experiment with mountain goats,” as well as the discredited planet Pluto and the towering Vulcan statue in Birmingham, Alabama.

Prine teamed with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb to record in Nashville’s historic Studio A, enlisting friends like Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Amanda Shires to sing along. The songs are new, although some had waited to be finished for decades, like a co-write with Phil Spector called “God Only Knows.” Another incomplete song, “I Have Met My Love Today,” now celebrates the unexpected spark that leads to lifelong romance – with a dash of youthful innocence. The musical arrangements may be simpler than on past efforts, yet.Screenshot 2018-12-07 at 16.51.16

American Folk

4d20259d-3292-4d3b-82bb-c32d51bd1c58

949f54a1-185b-4bef-88f4-c1aee540d117

The soundtrack for the acclaimed independent film American Folk—starring real life folk musicians Joe Purdy and Amber Rubarth—will be released January 26via Thirty Tigers In advance of the release, the song “Someone Singing With Me,” premiered  at Rolling Stone

Of the music, Rolling Stone praises, “Underscoring one of the film’s main themes—that sharing an experience with another person is preferable to enduring it alone—is the deeply affecting ‘Someone Singing With Me.’ Penned and sung by Purdy, and featuring Rubarth’s plaintive mountain harmony, the sweet tune features simple guitar accompaniment and beautifully recalls several of the duets that John Prine has sung so effectively with frequent partner Iris DeMent, yet it offers the added bonus of discovering two wondrous new voices steeped in the folk tradition.” In addition to both classic folk song renditions by Purdy and Rubarth and original compositions, the soundtrack includes John Prine’s “Some Humans Ain’t Human” and Jerry Garcia & David Grisman’s “Freight Train.” See below for complete track listing.

The album release coincides with the theatrical opening of the film, which has already drawn widespread critical attention (watch the official trailer HERE). Varietyasserts, “Understatedly moving, with lots of good music, David Heinz’s pleasing indie, starring two real-life singer-songwriters, merits the critical leg-up it will need to gain a commercial foothold beyond the festival circuit,” while the Hollywood Reporter declares, “quietly affecting…the film merits attention.”

Additionally, the movie won “Best American Independent Film Feature” at the Cleveland International Film Festival, a Special Jury Commendation for “Best Music” at the Port Townsend Film Festival, a Youth Jury Award for “Best Feature” at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and received nominations at the Seattle International Film Festival, the Heartland Film Festival, the Jackson Crossroads Film Festival, the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the Napa Valley Film Festival and the Southside Film Festival among others.

In celebration of the album release and film opening, Purdy and Rubarth will embark on a select series of performances next year including shows in L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, D.C., Boston, New York and Derry, NH. Additional dates in Europe  to be announced.

Written and directed by David Heinz, the film stars Purdy and Rubarth along with guest stars Krisha Fairchild (Krisha) and David Fine (The Pursuit of Happyness). Filmed over 3500 miles in 14 states, the movie follows Elliott (Purdy) and Joni (Rubarth) —two strangers, both folk musicians—whose fates become intertwined after their plane is grounded in Los Angeles following the September 11th attacks. Both desperately needing to get back to New York, they embark on a cross-country journey in a 1972 Chevy Van. Along the way, the duo finds solace in their mutual love of classic folk songs, and raising their voices with everyday people they meet on the road. They re-discover the healing nature of music and bear witness to a nation of people who lift each other up in the wake of tragedy.
