Worry Dolls To Release Their Debut Album ‘ Go Get Gone ‘ And To Tour From 16th Of January

Screen Shot 2017-02-16 at 10.11.35

BREAD & BUTTER MUSIC IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE

the debut album from Worry Dolls – a young female duo born out of the joint talents of Zoe Nicol and Rosie Jones. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Neilson Hubbard (Matthew Perryman Jones), a veteran of East Nashville’s music scene and featuring songwriting collaborations with Jeff Cohen (Teitur), Ben Glover (Gretchen Peters), Joe Doyle (Reba Mcentire) & stunning playing from Wild Ponies, Eamon McLoughlin (Ashley Monroe), Kenny Hutson (Little Big Town) & more.

Rosie grew up singing and playing a variety of instruments in a music-filled household in Devon, picking up guitar after finding an old nylon-string under the stairs. As a teenager, Rosie’s musical diet was a mix of punk bands & angsty singer songwriters, finding country through a friend’s copy of Ryan Adams’ ‘Heartbreaker’. At 17, she wrote a song called Tennessee about wanting to live in Nashville and get her heart broken so that she could write songs like the ones she loved.

Zoe, whose family originate from Liverpool and Ireland, was raised in a small village in Kent by her mum. She inherited music from her parents who, although separated, were both performers which resulted in a childhood spent back and forth between her mum’s theatrical rehearsals and her dad’s club gigs. At 12, she started learning to play her dad’s old Spanish guitar to accompany herself, drawing inspiration from Eva Cassidy and Joni Mitchell; the songs poured out.

Worry Dolls met in Liverpool when they were 18, both on their chosen path of becoming solo singer songwriters, Rosie joined Zoe’s band as a mandolin player and backing vocalist and their great chemistry and love of harmony led to them starting a contemporary bluegrass band. Paired by their teachers for an opportunity to have their songwriting critiqued by Paul McCartney, they were inspired to start co-writing, and could now be described as an almost telepathically linked songwriting force.

GO GET GONE featuring the singles Bless Your Heart, Miss You Already and Train’s Leaving will be released on January 27th, 2017 on Vinyl, CD and all digital outlets via Bread & Butter Music.

6th January 2016, London, UK – Grammy Award-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco announces the release of his highly anticipated sixth studio album, Drogas Light. Set for release on 10th February 2016, it will be the first album Lupe releases on his own label, 1st & 15th/Thirty Tigers.

Drogas Light is the first of a trilogy of albums (Drogas LightDrogas and Skulls) which see Lupe Fiasco reach his creative peak – the final curtain call on one of the most gifted lyricists and visionaries to grace the mic.  A testament to Fiasco’s artistic growth throughout the years Drogas Light is the embodiment of a musician whose foray beyond the boundaries of hip-hop feels increasingly natural, a glimpse into the genius that will be Fiasco’s legacy as he inevitably walks away from the spotlight.

Featuring artists such as Ty Dolla $ignRick Ross and BIG K.R.I.T,   the 14-track LP is free of restraint, and daring by Lupe’s standards: the sonic and storytelling palettes are vast and diverse, more so than ever before, traipsing genre and style with ease and touting songs to soundtrack everything from a night at the club to a quiet listen on headphones.

Influenced by Jay-Z, Common, and Nas, Lupe Fiasco broke onto the hip-hop scene in 2006 with his debut album Lupe Fiasco’s Food and Liquor. His hit single Daydreaming off of his debut album went on to win a Grammy in 2008, while he has received 12 Grammy nominations throughout his career. Powered by his proven lyrical prowess and remarkable artistic vision, Drogas Light is the latest chapter in Fiasco’s impressive career since parting with Atlantic Records in 2014.

Release Date: 20th January 2017 EU/ 10th Feb UK

The Black Lillies are a band for the ages: not slick, commercialised music, but rich, soulful tunes performed with as much heart as technical virtuosity. This commitment to authenticity has earned them accolades from outlets as diverse as NPR, CMT, American Songwriter, Vanity Fair, Wall Street Journal, and Rolling Stone, who named the band one of the “10 Artists You Need to Know.” The Black Lillies have won three Independent Music Awards, played the Grand Ole Opry more than any other independent band (more than 35 times, to date), and enthralled audiences at festivals ranging from Bonnaroo, SXSW, High Sierra, and Rochester International Jazz Fest to CMA FanFair, MerleFest and Stagecoach. The music is breakneck, brazen and beautiful; lush Laurel Canyon folk, spirited Muscle Shoals soul, the honky-tonk heartache of classic country, winding jams and flat-out rock’n’roll … full of the spirit of the open road, rolling down the highway and not about to stop anytime soon!

Release Date: 27th January 2017

The country-pop singer’s infatuation with Texas’ rich musical culture, from stage to studio to dance floor, informs an enthralling new project, a love letter to the Lone Star State. Her new EP,South Texas Suite, is a touch nostalgic, deeply romantic and defiantly personal — it’s Texas, through Whitney Rose’s eyes and ears.

She recorded South Texas Suite over two days at Dale Watson’s Ameripolitan Studios in North Austin, accompanied by Grammy winner Redd Volkaert, Merle Haggard’s former guitarist; Earl Poole Ball, who spent two decades tickling keyboards for Johnny Cash; Kevin Smith, now playing bass in Willie Nelson’s Family Band; and Tom Lewis, who’s drummed with the Mavericks, among others. Lewis also plays in Rose’s band, along with guitarist Bryce Clark, steel player James Shelton and acoustic guitarist Sophia Johnson. They’re also on the EP, along with fiddler Erik Hokkanen and accordionist Michael Guerra. No self-respecting two-stepper would take to a dance-hall floor without Rose’s favourite footwear; her heel-stomping honky-tonk ode to that Texas wardrobe essential, “My Boots,” is also a feminist statement“I’ll go if I can wear my boots/I don’t feel like high heel shoes”,she sings in her sugary-smooth voice.

Three-time Grammy award winner Delbert McClinton and Self-Made Men will release their newest recording, Prick Of The Litter. Prick Of The Litter contains 12 new songs that feature the soulful blend of blues, jazz, country and rock that has become synonymous with McClinton’s distinctive style. His songs and soul-stirring performances have connected with audiences across the country as well as his peers. Throughout the decades, McClinton has ridden the wave of major label success, penned songs that have been cut by successful country and blues artists, collaborated with artists ranging from Bonnie Raitt to Tanya Tucker and continued to create relevant and distinctive music.

The songs and vibe of Prick Of The Litter reflect a jazzier side of McClinton, beautifully capturing where the revered artist is in his life and career. The theme of romance, and his signature sense of humor shine throughout on songs such as “Middle Of Nowhere” and “Like Lovin’ Used To Be” while on “Jones For You” McClinton describes a character giving up his vices and struggling to be a better man. The band’s use of space and groove inspired by Johnny Mercer, Nat King Cole and other crooners sets the stage for McClinton’s weathered vocal which has only gotten sweeter with time.

Prick Of The Litter was recorded with the support of McClinton’s working band, Self- Made Men

Release Date: 24th February 2017

Groundbreaking independent country artist Aaron Watson continues to chart his own course with the February 24th release of his new album Vaquero (BIG Label Records/Thirty Tigers). Watson made history in 2015 when his 10th studio album, The Underdog debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart marking the first time an independent, male country artist had ever debuted at the coveted top spot. Watson’s unprecedented accomplishment turned heads and opened many eyes to what he had been building independently for years. The new 16-song collection finds the Texas native following the trail back to his roots, keying in on his influences and tipping his hat to the fans and family who helped set the foundation for his success.
Vaquero, which means the ‘original cowboy’. Throughout, he depicts stories of a rugged people, humble but hardworking, like himself. He puts a playful spin on an insider’s view on the Texan way of life with “Amen Amigo” and delivers life lessons courtesy of an old vaquero with the title track. On the poignant “Diamonds & Daughters,” he opens up his heart for his little girl. “Mariano’s Dream” is a companion piece to “Clear Isabel” and on “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To” he sings of the longing for the nostalgia of an earlier time.  Watson co-produced Vaquero with award-winning producer Marshall Altman.

Furnace, the sophomore album from Dead Man Winter, is set for release on January 27 on GNDWIRE/Thirty Tigers. Furnace is a highly revealing and deeply personal offering from accomplished singer and songwriter Dave Simonett, who performs under the pseudonym Dead Man Winter. Widely known as the lead vocalist and songwriter for the acclaimed band Trampled By Turtles, Simonett has touched legions of fans with his thoughtful lyrics and warm tenor.

The songwriter spent time in a cabin during the 20-below Minnesota winter and just wrote. The pent up emotions poured out of him and into songs such as the haunting “This House Is On Fire”, the reflective Byrds-styled “Destroyer” and the rollicking confessional “Am I Breaking Down”, to name a few. Simonett recorded with longtime friends from the Minneapolis rock scene — drummer JT Bates, guitarist Erik Koskinen, bassist Tim Saxhaug, and keyboardist Bryan Nichols. The album was recorded live to tape at the historic Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN, where Nirvana’s In Utero was recorded.

SON VOLT RETURNS WITH BLUES INSPIRED NOTES OF BLUE ON FEBRUARY 17

jjjjj

jjjjj

Seminal band Son Volt has announced the February 17 release of their new album, Notes Of Blue (Thirty Tigers). Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the alt.country movement of the 1990’s. A movement that was the precursor to what is now widely referred to as Americana.

The 10 songs on Notes Of Blue are inspired by the spirit of the blues, but not the standard blues as most know it. The unique and haunting tunings of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake were all points of exploration for Farrar for the new collection. The album opens with the country soul of “Promise The World”, followed by “Back Against The Wall”, a song that could stand alongside the great Son Volt songs of their early albums. However, Notes Of Blue reflects the blues as it resides in the folk tradition, but heavily amplified. The primal stomp of “Cherokee St.”, the frenetic guitar on “Static” and the raw slide in “Sinking Down” exude grit and attitude. Conversely, tracks such as “The Storm” and “Cairo and Southern” seamlessly meld blues with hypnotic melodies that add a unique balance to Notes Of Blue.

Farrar possesses one of the most distinctive voices in roots, rock, country or any genre. He exudes a soulful longing combined with a wise-beyond-his-years command that is as arresting and compelling as ever. As a songwriter, Farrar’s depth and poetic penchant has been the foundation of a thoughtful, deep and intelligent body of work. Both attributes are on full display on Notes Of Blue, as he touches on themes of redemption and the common struggle, both of which are at the core of the blues.

Whether you call it alt.country, Americana, roots rock, insurgent country or just good ol’ rock ‘n’ roll, musical trends appear and disappear on regular basis. Notes Of Blue is a testament to the legacy of inspiration and creative spirit that Jay Farrar and Son Volt continue to uphold.

Recording artist Cakes Da Killa is a 25-year-old rapper with five critically-acclaimed mixtapes under his belt. His 2013 release The Eulogy solidified him as “one of hip hop’s most exciting new voices,” according to The Needle Drop as well as a ferocious rapper who Pitchfork stated was, “the closest thing to a raunchy figure with enough on-mic charisma to convince you it’s an admirable personality type.”

This raw intensity has also garnered him praise from the likes of Red Bull, Afropunk and The Fader. Cakes Da Killa’s unique sound is a mix of various musical influences and his underground experience. Praised for his lyrical wordplay, flow, and delivery Cakes has quickly carved a lane for himself in music as a trailblazer. Worth more than just a mention on a queer hip hop trend piece, Cakes Da Killa is a talent not to be slept on.

Cakes has as an international following that’s brought him to places around Europe, Canada and Australia, all the while shattering the preconceived notions of what it takes to be a respected lyricist in hip hop. Rightly bragging that he can, “spit that shit to make a homophobe a hypocrite,” he continues to prove the statement true with each new release. He has been featured in various printed publications globally and television specials such as VH1’s LHH: Out in Hip Hop and VICE’s Gaycation.

“America’s sharpest musical storyteller.” – Rolling Stone

You don’t expect barrelhouse boogie woogie, straight up garage rock or power pop from the ratchety voice who gave you “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” the iconic East Nashville Skyline or the Great American Taxi-backed Time As We Know It: The Songs of Jerry Jeff Walker.

Yet fresh from fronting the freewheeling social commentary of the jam-meets-Tom Petty Hard Working Americans – featuring Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Chris Robinson Brotherhood’s Neal Casal – Todd Snider’s Eastside Bulldog suggests there’s a new kinda rumble under the hood of the iconoclastic troubadour.

Luke Bell’s backstory could’ve come out of the pages of a novel by Jim Harrison, Thomas McGuane or Cormac McCarthy.
A fth-generation descendant of Wyoming homesteaders, the ranch hand turned troubadour has seen a lot of life in his 26 years on this mortal coil, and his self titled album serves as a rollicking document of his experiences. The record is teeming with colorful characters, captured in hardscrabble yarns of living hard and drink- ing harder, making bad choices and laughing them off. There’s a little bit of their author in each of these awed but redeemable characters—and at a time when authenticity is in short supply, Luke Bell has come along to remind us what it feels like to be truly alive and open to the possibilities of existence in a captivating song cycle that puts the cowboy back into country & western.

Yamagata’s is a career punctuated by 3 previous albums, 5 EP releases and various collaborations with the likes of Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes and Ray LaMontagne, but the Virginian singer-songwriter chose to challenge herself thematically with this new album. This decision was, in part, induced by Philippe Petit – the French high-wire artist famed for tightrope walking between the two World Trade Centres in 1974 – who, when asked why he performed such a feat, simply responded ‘there is no why’. This notion of inwardly searching for reasons resonated strongly with Yamagata and, as such, her mentality and approach towards writing songs began to shift. As a collection of tracks began to emerge, Tightrope Walker was born.

Yamagata’s creative process, as well her as her outlook on her life and art, also shifted over the conception of the new album; she had become a mother, a self-manager and a producer; she became driven by the idea of owning her own power, much like the influential figure of Petit. She switched from the usual procedure of vetting around 200 songs for an album and focused instead on just 15, editing and reworking each to find the exact musical expression that would hold for each song.

Rachael Yamagata presents Tightrope Walker with  a series of intimate Live UK shows:
17th November – The Islington, London
20th November – The Islington, London
21st November – The Kings Arms, Manchester
22nd November – Mono, Glasgow

“I didn’t have to do this,” says Carl Broemel, referring to his new solo album, 4th of July, as a member of My Morning Jacket, Broemel spent the past few years working rock ’n’ roll hours (that is to say, 24/7) with his bandmates to help establish MMJ as one of the best live rock bands currently in the game. Their combined efforts proved successful.

But something stirred within him and during lulls between album and tour cycles, when he could’ve opted to vacation or catch up on sleep, Broemel instead booked studio sessions in Nashville and, over a four year span of these tiny windows, recorded the sprawling collection of songs that form 4th of July.

Recorded over different periods of Broemel’s life, the songs point to a soulful awareness of inner life and the passage of time – thoughts that ponder their own reflection, marveling perhaps at how different our lives look now from the engrained images of ourselves that we’ve held onto from an earlier time.

Tanya Tagaq

Retribution

21 October 2016 – Live dates to come late January

Inuit artist Tanya Tagaq won the Polaris Music Prize for best Canadian album in 2014, for Animism. Those who thought she had then made her definitive artistic statement are in for a surprise. Also in for a shock are those who thought international success, playing to major festivals and packed houses all over the world, would lead to a mellower sound, or a more laid back approach.

Tagaq follows up Animism with Retribution, an even more musically aggressive, more aggressively political, more challenging, more spine tingling, more powerful masterpiece. This album is a cohesive, whole statement. Why sugarcoat it? This album is about rape. Rape of women, rape of the land, rape of children, despoiling of traditional lands without consent. Hence the chilling cover version of Nirvana’s song “Rape Me.”

Recording artist Cakes Da Killa is a 25-year-old rapper with five critically-acclaimed mixtapes under his belt. His 2013 release The Eulogy solidified him as “one of hip hop’s most exciting new voices,” according to The Needle Drop as well as a ferocious rapper who Pitchfork stated was, “the closest thing to a raunchy figure with enough on-mic charisma to convince you it’s an admirable personality type.” This raw intensity has also garnered him praise from the likes of Red Bull, Afropunk and The Fader. Cakes along with Philadelphia based producer Noah Breakfast collided one night at Red Bull Studios and created a sizzling mantra for any underdog that has been slept on.

Cakes has an European following. Rightly bragging that he can, “spit that shit to make a homophobe a hypocrite,” he continues to prove the statement true with each new release. Talkin’ Greezy is the first single from the long awaited return of the lyrical menace Cakes Da Killa and will start the campaign alongside an exclusive track out with Converse. After an upsetting heartbreak that birthed the #IMF EP, Cakes is back with the same raw intensity, witty wordplay and flow that established him as one of hip hop’s freshest faces.
